Cambelt / Timing Belt

A vehicle’s Cam-Belt (also known as a timing belt) is a crucial rubber belt that ensures the crankshaft and camshaft are working in synchronisation. An engine must be precisely timed to ensure is running seamlessly.
Water Pump

In many cases, the Cambelt also drives a vehicle’s water pump. The Water Pump assists with circulating coolant around the system to maintain correct engine temperature. If your vehicle’s water pump is driven by the Cambelt, we strongly advise this is replaced at the same time.
When should my Cambelt be replaced?
Your Cambelt is due for replacement, most commonly on a time-based interval (E.g. Audi & VW typically every 4/5 years). We have access to manufacturer service schedules and repair data, so our team can advise you accordingly.
Sadly, this belt often offers no warning signs when it’s reaching the end of its life and just breaks. When a Cambelt/Timing Belt breaks, this can mean the end of the road for your engine. If you are ever in any doubt, please contact our reception team for further help and advice.
This short video shows the damage that could be done in the event of your Cam-Belt/Timing Belt breaking.
Do all vehicles have a Cambelt? No.
Many vehicles have a rubber belt, known as a Cambelt/Timing belt, to ensure the engine is kept in synchronisation. This is a serviceable item and is due for replacement in accordance with manufacturer recommendation.
Some vehicles have a Timing Chain instead, a metal link chain which is designed to last the life of the vehicle, however, it may need attention when it reaches higher mileage. Typically on commercial vehicles, there are also timing gears, a series of cogs that ensure the engine timing is accurate. These are also intended to last the life of the vehicle.
